But much of the younger Thomas Sheridan's life - until he was approaching 40 - was spent acting or theatre managing in Dublin and London. The latter part of his life was devoted to teaching and lecturing on elocution. He fell out with Samuel Johnson over pensions, Johnson finally damning Sheridan as 'dull, naturally dull'.
