Chelsea: Printed by C. H. St J. Hornby at the Ashendene Press, 1932 - Quarto. Original orange limp vellum, spine lettered in gilt, orange ties, top edge trimmed, others uncut. Very pale speckling to rear cover, an excellent copy with spine entirely unfaded. Initial letters hand-executed in red, blue and green by Graily Hewitt and his assistants, Ida D. Henstock and Helen E. Hinkley. First Ashendene edition, limited issue, one of 328 copies, printed in red and black Subiaco typefont on Batchelor hand-made paper; a further 25 were issued on vellum. "Booksellers continually declare the Ashendene Ecclesiasticus to be the finest book from the private presses"; A. D. Power stated "in my humble opinion it is one of the most satisfactory of the books of the Press'" (Colin Franklin, The Private Presses, p. 60). Franklin, 219. [Attributes: First Edition]
