Complete with title page, original book frontispiece and original book covers ORIGINAL LITHOGRAPH : The Doctor PUBLISHED IN 1896 Size: 10 x 7 1/2 inches Condition: An excellent example of this important lithograph, a strong impression. "The Doctor (Whistler's brother) The subject is Whistler's younger brother, William Gibbs McNeill Whistler (1846-1900).He studied medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and served in the Confederate Army. He moved to London to be with his famity, and established a surgeon's practice there. This image was first drawn by Whistler in late 1894, when the doctor visited the Whistler house in Rue du Bac, Paris, to consult with the doctors treating Beatrice Whistler. Unsigned; as per Way 78; Spink, Stratis and Tedeschi 110; Levy 117. Provenance: The Pageant, 1896. (Supporting documentation from the publication will be supplied, see photos). Beautifully printed (by Thomas Way, Whistler's long-term lithographer and friend) on slightly glossy wove paper; a rich, strong impression.
