New York: Harper & Brothers, 1847. First edition. Hardcover. Near fine. Yes. Small 4to. i-ix,(9),19-296pp. Modern full maroon morocco. Spine in six compartments with raised bands, tooled in blind, brown leather lettering labels, gilt; boards tooled in blind; all edges gilt; marbled endpapers. Illustrated with 64 hand colored, tissue-guarded lithographic plates, 60 of which are individual blooms with facing letterpress descriptions; the remaining four plates illustrate the preliminary general botany discussion. Light foxing to the letterpress and the tissue guards and a coupe of the plates, but the rest of the plates are fine and bright with vivid coloring. A near fine copy and quite scarce. U.S. Color Plates Books, p. 83. This title begins with a general introduction to botany followed by colored illustrations and floral descriptions.
