Johann Seligmann Nuremburg: Johann Seligmann, 1753. unbound. very good. Bird print. Etching with original hand coloring. Page measures 17" x 10", image measures 12" x 8 7/8". Beautiful and unusual life sized beak of a flamingo set against a background of Gorgonian coral. Minor wear and aging to edges. Minor stain in lower left. Mark Catesby (1683-1749), born in England, was America's first naturalist/illustrator. He was the first to comprehensively illustrate natural history delineating the American flora and fauna. This selection was etched and published by Johann Seligmann (1720-1762) after Catesby. Please visit our gallery for more Catesby prints.
