From the date of a similar image of his brother published in the 1906 "Studio" Art publication. * The artist died tragically be self inflicted wounds after a serious depression brought on by loss of eyesight in his later years in 1937. He was renowned for his magnificent animal paintings and illustrated an edition of Kipling's "Jungle Book" and also "The Fables Of Aesop". in the early 20th century. Also a number of fantasy and outlandish natural history images were produced by him. Influenced by the Japanese School of the late 19th century. A sketch similar was done of his brother Maurice who also died tragically in his youth he committed suicide in 1908 by taking poison. The sketch of his brother was illustrated in an issue of "The Studio" in 1905/6 and an example is sent with this image and we therefor date this to a similar period.
