London - Richard Bentley 1867 - A finely bound edition of Richard Barham's Ingoldsby Legends. The Carmine Edition from Richard Bentley and Son, featuring a decorative red border around the text. The Ingoldsby Legends by Richard Barham are a collection of myths, legends, ghost stories and poetry. The works are supposedly written by Thomas Ingoldsby of Tappington Manor which was actually a nom de plume for English cleric Richard Harris Barham. Illustrated, with six plates. Comprising of the first, second and third series in one volume. In a Bickers and Son binding, with the binder's stamp to the recto of front endpaper. Condition: In a full morocco binding with gilt stamping to the boards and spine. Externally, very smart with some light rubbing to the joints and extremities. Further patches of light rubbing to the raised bands. Gift inscription to the recto of front endpaper, dated 1868. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned with light spotting to the first and last few pages. The occasional spots found to the rest of textblock, mostly to plates.
