[His Dark Materials Trilogy: The Golden Compass; The Subtle Knife; The Amber Spyglass. All Signed]
New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1996. First American Edition. Hardcover. New/fine. SIGNED: Three-volume set. 399, 326, 518 pp. Octavo (21.5cm); the first two books are bound in blue boards over gilt-stamped blue cloth spines; the third book is bound in matte pictorial boards. Ink remainder mark on top of The Subtle Knife's text block, else all books and dust jackets are in Fine condition. The Amber Spyglass has a small, folded, single page reader's companion laid in. Signed by Pullman on title page of all three books. Pullman's theologically charged trilogy follows Lyra Belacqua (aka: Lyra Silvertongue), Will Parry, and their daemons, through multiple universes in a coming of age tale aimed at both children and adults. The trilogy has won multiple awards, with "The Amber Spyglass" being awarded the 2001 Whitbread Book of the Year prize and "The Golden Compass" (titled "Northern Lights" in the UK) having won the Carnegie Medal for children's fiction in the UK in 1995. Pullman is surprised that the series received as little criticism from the Catholic church as it did, stating that the Harry Potter series took the brunt of that beating.
