Jay Adler Was A Member Of The Adler Acting Family, All Active In The Group Theatre, Regarding Whom Odets Concludes The Preface To This Book "Lastly, A Pair Of Acknowledgments. Fortunate Is The Writer In This Strange And Inimical World Who Finds A Devoted Helpful Obstetrician For Births And Beginnings. This Is Not To Forget The Group Theatre Actors And Actresses, All Dear And Good Friends, Who Have Given Such Inspired Performances Of All These Plays. New York July 18 1939". Jay Adler's Parents And Siblings Were All Involved With The Group Theatre, And His Sister, Stella Adler, Was In "Awake And Sing" And "Paradise Lost", Both Reproduced In This Collection. Odets Signed His First Autograph In A Book To Jay Adler, In The Adler Apartment Where He Held A Celebratory Dinner After His First Publishing Success. Stella Adler Was Married To Clurman. A Fine Inscription, But Also A Remarkable Copy, As It Has Been Read Almost To Bits, With Much More Wear Then This Dealer Has Ever Seen On A Modern Library Book, Indicating Untold Re-Readings. Due To The Fragile State Of The Binding, Housed In A Custom Clamshell Case.
