Who Goes There? (The Thing)
Shasta Publishers, Chicago 1948 - 1st printing. 13.2 x 20cm blue boards with gilt stamped titles to the spine. (viii) 230pp + (1) author biography, with very striking, unclipped, original dust jacket designed by Hannes Bok priced at $3.00. One of an undetermined number of subscriber copies signed on the front free endpaper by the author. VG + Boards with only a tiny push at the top of the spine. Internally, the book is clean and bright without name, inscription, book plate or marks and only the author's signature. The binding is firm and square. The dust jacket is a little faded to the spine and dust stained along the edges. The unclipped jacket is in original unrestored condition with no tape. It has some rubbing to the spine tips, corners, shoulders and edges with a little loss to the corners and head of the spine and three small tears of under 1cm with associated creasing along the top edge. The book consists of seven short stories that were originally published in Astounding Science Fiction (1934-38) and the title story has been the basis for three films: The Thing From Another World (1951) directed by Christian Nyby; The Thing (1982) directed by John Carpenter; The Thing (2011) directed by Matthijs van Heijngen.
