Macon, Georgia: J.W. Burke. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good. 12mo (7"x51/4"). [4] 8-47pp., map. [4] 4-40pp. + 1. Inscribed on paste-down endpaper by Chip Robert to U.S. Senator Hiram W. Johnson (1937). Included is a letter on stationary of The Democratic National Committee (Robert was secretary) to the senator. In it, Robert writes of "our old Southern negroes, who are very near and dear to my heart", "the distinguished author is a close friend of my family" and "Eneas Africanus" and the more recent "Gone With The Wind" take their places in the list of the truly great historical fiction stories which so well describe and bring vividly to mind life in the old south". Stapled binding (three cut outs to interior spine paper enabling staples to fit in casing) in brown suede covers, 3/8"x1/4 dark stain to upper cover, spine darkened, wear to head/tail of spine and corners. Paperclip impressions to head of free endpaper (removed, Mr. Robert's business card also included), rest of text block tight and unmarked.
