London: W. F. Rutter & Son,, 1865. from the Norman Conquest to the reign of Victoria; or, royal book of beauty. Illustrated by thirty highly-finished portraits on steel. Quarto (275 x 190 mm). Contemporary dark brown morocco, spine richly gilt in compartments with titles direct, bevelled boards decorated in gilt and blind and with gilt centre tool of the Royal Arms, all edges gilt, inner dentelles gilt, yellow coated endpapers. 30 steel-engraved plates. Two neat ownership signatures to front free endpaper. Extremities a little rubbed, front board lightly bowed, faint foxing to contents. An excellent copy. An attractively bound copy of this Victorian lives of the queens of Great Britain, edited by early women's rights supporter, Mary Howitt (1799–1888).
