The Killer Shrews (Original vinyl record of radio announcements for the 1959 film)
Los Angeles: Hollywood Pictures, 1959. Original 33 1/3 RPM vinyl record of radio spot announcements for the 1959 science fiction film "The Killer Shrews." The crew of a ship resupplying a scientific research station on a remote island is forced to stay the night when a hurricane hits the island, only to get more than they bargained for when they are must help the scientists defeat a group of giant mutant shrews who have escaped from the lab. Radio spot announcements voiced by the legendary radio maverick Gordon McLendon, who is credited with having pioneered the first traffic reports, radio jingles, all-news stations, "easy listening" programming, and mobile news broadcasting unit. Ray Kellogg's directorial debut, after he headed Twentieth Century-Fox's special effects department throughout the 1950. Kellogg also provided the effects for "The Killer Shrews," which included shrew hand puppets for close-ups and (somewhat poorly-disguised) coonhounds for wider action shots. While its appearance on Mystery Science Theater 3000 solidified its place amongst the cult exploitation horror films, at the time of its release it was regarded as one of the most successful regional films, receiving both national and international distribution. Set on a remote island, and shot on location outside of Dallas, Texas. Near Fine, housed in Very Good original manila sleeve. Mystery Science Theater 3000 407. Weldon 1983.
