Philadelphia: Lea & Blanchard, 1842. First American edition, preceded by the English edition. BAL3899. Small octavo, two volumes, xiv, 5-236; 247pp. Foxed throughout, and with a few pencilled notes on endpapers. In publisher's purple- brown cloth, with binding and labels worn and stained, and with a tiny wormhole in the gutter margin of the rear cover of Volume I. Each volume bears a bookplate with the motto "vincit omnia veritas" and the single name "Guernsey". The volumes are enclosed in individual brown cloth-on-board chemises with grosgrain pull tabs, and matching slipcases with brown morocco spines, very slightly rubbed.
