Amsterdam 1640 - Bella carta delle isole scozzesi settentrionali di Orkney e Shetland. In alto a sinistra, lo stemma della Scozia. Diverse imbarcazioni solcano il mare. Incisione su rame, bella coloritura coeva, testo latino al verso, consueta piega centrale, lievi macchie d'umido nel margine bianco superiore, nel complesso in ottimo stato di conservazione. This scarce map of Scotland's northern archipelagos presents the Orkney Islands at left and the Shetland Islands at right. The seas are filled with fishing boats and sailings ships and fish stringers are suspended from the title cartouche attesting to the rich fishing grounds of the region. A note near the distance scale cartouche notes that the Dutch annual herring harvest supplies all of Europe. The map is further adorned with the royal coat of arms of Scotland. Copperplate, original color with light damp stains in the top blank margins, centerfold, Latin text on verso, in good condition. Dimensioni 490 380mm
