Paul Friederich Meyerheim Pencil Drawing of Lioness
- A pencil drawing of a large feline by the German artist Paul Friederich Meyerheim. Drawn on ivory paper that is 11 1/2" by 8 3/4" with the estate stamp containing his signature at the bottom right corner. Meyerheims' skill as a draftsman and fluid knowledge of feline anatomy is apparent in this simple sketch of a lioness. Paul Meyerheim (1842-1915) was taught art by his father, the painter Friedrich Eduard Meyerheim. As a young boy he spent so much time at the Berlin Zoological Gardens he befriended Martin Lichtenstein, the zoo's founder, who allowed him into areas that were normally closed to the public. This formative experience certainly led him to become an animalier artist. Condition: Some faint toning at margins, otherwise fine. [Attributes: Signed Copy]
