Lavishly illustrated throughout with 1549 b/w photographic reproductions, as well as 32 color plates, this work is a catalogue raisonné of the painting of Émile Bernard (1868-1941), a celebrated French Post-Impressionist painter and writer, who had artistic friendships with Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, Eugène Bloch, and at a later time, Paul Cézanne. Most of his notable work was accomplished at a young age, in the years 1886 through 1897. Bernard is also associated with Cloisonnism and Synthetism, two late 19th-century art movements. Dust-jacket with minor shelf wear. Pages slightly age-toned along edges. Text in French. DJ in overall good+, binding and interior in very good condition.
