Correspondence of Edmund Burke & William Windham with Other Illustrative Letters from the Windham Papers in the British Museum
Cambridge: At the University Press, 1910. Limited edition. Hardcover. Very good overall. A Roxburghe Club publication, a club established 1812, the oldest society of bibliophiles in the world, its' membership limited to 40. Generally their publications are produced in two states; the Club member receives a copy bound in half calf with the recipient's name printed in red on the membership list. Usually, not more than 42 copies are printed in this form. Additional copies, generally bound in cloth, are available to others, and are issued in up to 300 copies. This volume is bound in red half calf, which suggests it is a member's copy, but the member's name is not printed in red on the membership list. 4to, xx, 254pp, top edge gilt, deckled edge. Original red half calf, gilt title on spine, with original dark pink papered boards. Binding a little scuffed at extreme edges, some marks on boards. Internally pristine. Burke-Windham correspondence between 1783 and 1797, during the period between the outbreak of the French Revolution and the death of Burke. Fifty-three hitherto unpublished letters of Burke, supplemented by some reprinted from his published correspondence and diary, "the extreme dates being 1783 and 1797, though the main interest centres on the last nine years, the period between the outbreak of the French revolution and the death of Burke. The remaining forty-two letters are selected ... with a view to illustrating the subjects mentioned in Burke's letters ... Many of these ... are important documents, worthy of publication for their own sake, and all, so far as I am aware, are hitherto unpublished." cf. Introd., p. [xiii]./ "Ex mus├Žo Hvthii." OCLC: 4637511. UNCOMMON ON THE MARKET.
