A Long Undressing. Collected Poems: 1949-1969
New York: Jargon Society, 1971. First Edition, First Printing. Hardcover. A near fine copy in original rust cloth decorated and lettered in gilt, lightly foxed at edges and pictorial dust jacket with a small tape mend on verso (JW's unfortunate habit) but is near fine otherwise.. Small quarto. 7.25 x 10.25 in. 193 pp. Jargon 55. Designed by Andrew Hoyem and the dust jacket reproduces a photograph by Imogen Cunningham, "The Poet and His Alter Ego." Broughton has inscribed this copy on the front free endpaper to the book's publisher, Jonathan Williams: "Dear Jonathan/ praise and thanks/ praise and thanks/ for this most beautiful of books/ James/ devoutedly. " A splendid and poignant association.
