Cadell & Davies, Edinburgh 1829 - Small 8vo, contemp. half calf, marb bds., morocco spine labels. Vol.1:cvrs bit rubbed, rear e.p. pasted down. With a foldg.hand coloured map of Canada and the United States and the plan of the Mississipi river and the folding table. Vol.2:lacks spine, front hinge bit weak. Vol 3; Crns and es. bit rubbed, small hole in e.p. prelims bit foxed. With the half title to volume 3 only.Bookplates of John Alves Arbuthnot and William Arbuthnot .John was the son of sir William Arbuthnot, the first Baronet of Arbuthnot of Edinburgh. He was born on the 3rd of October 1802 at Coworth Park, Sunningdale, old Windsor and died there on the 29th August, 1875. He was a founding partner of the firm Arbuthnot, Latham and co. and a JP also. Married to Mary and having a son William, born 14th April, 1833. He died on 9th February 1896. A descendant, Sophia Appleyard-Ley was born in 1973. The price quoted allows for a matching spine to be commissioned. I understand that a fourth supplementary foliio volume of etched views were published but are rarely found and is absent here. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
