1723 - FUNCK, Johann Nicolaus. DE ADOLESCENTIA LATINAE LINGUAE TRACTATUS quo Iuvenilis & crescens eius in variis scientiis vigor & fata, inde a Bello Punico secundo usque ad Ciceronis aetatem, demonstrantur. Marburg, Philip Casimir Muller, 1723. 4to. [ii]333[17]pp. First edition. The philologist J.N. Funck of Marburg charted the development of the Latin language in a series of treatises: de Origine; de Pueritia; de Adolescentia; de Virili Aetate; de Imminenti Senectute; de Inerti ac decrepita Senectute (On the Origin, the Childhood, the Adolescence, the Manhood, the Approaching Old Age, the Decrepit Old Age) as though it were a living human being. This, the third treatise, concerns the "Adolescence" of the language, from the Second Punic War to the time of Cicero. Nicely printed, with type ornaments, and title in red and black, Light toning to pages; two-inch by 1/4-inch hole in title page, probably from rubbing out an owner's signature.
