S Religious Tract Society 1880 - FIRST EDITION (1880), dated from British Library Catalogue, small 4to, 250 x 198 mm, 10 x 7½ inches, green cloth illustrated silver, gold and black with 4 illustrations from the 4 titles, pages: 6, 6, 10 and 10. 24 lovely bright colour plates signed S. Muir, each with blank paper guard. Contains 4 stories: The Children's Garden; The Story of a Goat; The New Pet (a jackdaw); The Story of Eva and Topsy (a story of a little girl who tried to help and comfort negro slaves on her father's farm, featuring Uncle Tom). Expertly recased and restitched, head and tail of spine neatly strengthened, endpapers replaced. Covers very slightly worn, some light flecking to lower cover, occasional fingermarks to margins within, 10 mm (½") closed tear to lower edge of 6 pages. A very good plus copy.
