Armorial bookplate to FEP of D. A. Freeman with motto 'nil sine magno labore', bookplate of Los Angeles Law Library to recto of FFEP, lightly foxed in parts but overall a clean and crisp copy. Barnabe Brisson (1531-1591), French jurist and politician associated with the legal humanists, a group dedicated to the study and renewal of Roman law, founded in direct opposition to the postglossators whom they viewed as detrimental to the resurrected Corpus Juris Civilis.
