Original wavy-grained cloth with gilt-stamped telescope on upper cover, gilt-lettered spine, "Bound by Westleys & Co., London" diamond label at the back. Some wear and inner hinge starting. Illustrated with Photo-Stereographs. 20 mounted albumen plates. xvi, 451, [1], ads pp. 8vo. First Book with Stereoscopic Views. The 20 albumen stereographs were made from "orginal negatives…taken by myself." Smyth adds, "if we wish to enjoy the effects either of solidity or of distance…we have only to combine the two photographs stereoscopically, and those bewitching qualties are produced."
