Boston: Ticknor And Fields, 1866. First Edition. Very near fine with an expertly rebacked spine with the original back strip laid-down with all of the original gilt text. The boards are covered with the original, wavy brown cloth with blind embossed borders and blind stamped wreath on both boards. This is the "A" binding as defined by BAL. A 12mo of 7 by 4 1/2 inches with the front and rear hinges professionally reinforced with Japanese tissue and preserving the original end sheets. The contents are clean and bright with no staining, foxing or tanning and with no prior ownership markings of any kind. Housed in a fine black paper covered slip case. The first 78 pages are devoted to A Yankee In Canada. That text if followed by 286 pages of text cover Thoreau's essays on Anti-Slavery and Reform Papers. One of only 1,546 copies printed.
