Autumn: From The Journal of Henry D. Thoreau
Boston: Houghton, Mifflin and Comapny, 1892. First Edition. First printing Very near fine in the publisher's green cloth covered beveled boards with gilt text stamping on the spine, a gilt stamped facsimile of the author's signature on the front board and black end papers with thetop edge of the text block gilt. A small octavo measuring 7 1/2 by 4 3/4 inches with just a hint of rubbing to the cloth at the head and heel of the spine and with the title page tanned as a newspaper clipping had been left over it for too long. The contents are clean, neat and without any tanning or foxing. This was the last of the four "seasons" to be published. Only 1,020 copies of the first edition were printed. This title was the last of Thoreau's four "seasons" to be published from his journal after his death. An extremely handsome, clean and tight copy with no weakness to the hinges or joints and no damage to the cloth at the head and heel of the spine. 470 pages including an index. (BAL 20130; Borst A11.1.a)
