Ticknor and Fields,, Boston: 1865 - First printing Very good+ in its original dark blue textured (Z) cloth covered boards with gilt text on the spine and blind stamped wreaths and borders on both boards with coated brown end sheets. The binding conforms to BAL Binding D. A 12mo measuring 7" by 4 1/2" with the cloth at the head and heel of the spine rubbed and worn. The cloth at the head of the spine is worn down to the edge of the text block. The cloth at the tips of the boards is worn through. The rear hinge is starting. There is a neatly printed, early prior owner's name in pencil on the second free end page. The contents are tight, clean and free of foxing and tanning. Without a dust jacket as issued. 252 pages of text followed by 24 pages of ads for other books by the publisher dated " December 1864". The first printing of this title included only 2,000 copies.
