Lazarillo: or the excellent history of Lazarillo de Tormes, the witty Spaniard. Both parts. The first translated by David Rowland, and the second gather'd out of the Chronciles of Toledo by Iean de Luna a Castilian and done into English by the same [.]
Printed by R. Hodgkinsonne, London 1655 - [336] pages. Signatures A4, B-X8, Y4. ESTC R42100 where signature B is only given 6 leaves, however here there are 8. Ink stamp to the rear of the title page Alexander Gardyne 1883. Early ink notes to the margins, mainly in Latin and mainly religious, most are cropped by later binding. Ink writing also to the title page. Ink names to Y3v. Extra illustrated with a suite of 16 plates. There is a note to the end paper that these have come from the 1699 Bruxelles edition - however on the plate facing K2v are the words Wine to sell. Whereas the frontispiece is titled in French. So I cannot be sure which edition they are from. Pages are spotted and browned throughout. Some tears to the margins. Small faded circular photographic bookplate to the front pastedown. In 19th century worn half leather binding. Attributed to Diego Hurtado de Mendoza. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
