[Fredrick de Wit?], [Amstelodami?] 1647 - Etching. Earth, from the Four Elements series. Fine impression. Remnants of print tape on verso top, no affect at all to recto, or illustration. Large margins. Lettered with date and artists at bottom. Beautiful piece. Illustrations: Earth; a young child handing a cornucopia to another, kneeling at right on a hill; a third child picking apples from a tree, and a fourth seated under the tree, farm workers harvesting corn in background. Hollar (1607-1677), Bohemian, active in London. One of the premier etchers and draftsmen of the 17th century, Wenceslaus Hollar is known for his landscape, architectural and topographical views, still lifes and depictions of women?s fashions.
