[Framed Photograph]: Malt Mill Providence Brewing Company
Providence, Rhode Island: The New York Photo View Company, 1900. Near Fine. Frame photograph measuring 11" x 12.5". Near fine with slight edgewear and wear on the frame. A photo taken by the New York Photo View Company of the Malt Mill Providence Brewing Company at the turn of the century. The photo shows three men standing around a Chas. Pilling malt mill posed for the camera. The company began in 1896 as the Providence Brewing Company, formerly the American Brewing Company, and stayed in business until 1925. On the verso of the frame is a label from The New York Photo View Company which reads, "photos of machinery, monuments, public buildings, private residences, interior and exterior, newspaper illustrations, groups of societies, associations, lodges, etc. etc. Duplicates can be obtained by ordering from the above number of negative. Commercial work a specialty. All complaints for irregularities or overcharges please report at once to our office. Pictures taken at night by flash light." The flash light mentioned in the label was referencing the new technology of "flash powder."An interesting occupational photograph taken in the early 1900s by a company who claimed to specialize in the art.
