The Illustrated London News volume LIV Jan. to June 1869
George C. Leighton, London 1869 - the leather at the corners is rubbed, exposing the card beneath, and there is a bend/crack across the top edge of the front panel; foxing to the verso of the front free end page and to the next page, thereafter, the book is essentially clean and free of foxing until we get to the blank page inserted before the rear free end page. The first 4 pages of printed text comprises the volume statement with illustration and the next 2 engravings in volume LIV, published July 10, 1869. There is at the bottom of page IV and instruction to the binder on how to fit the two-page engravings, of which there are a number. The half year covers the Suez Canal, the entry of Lord Spencer into Ireland, the new law courts etc. Becoming scarcer because of the sellers without wedded parents who break apart these volumes to sell the various plates and illustrations singly.
