[Cincinnati]: Enquirer Print, 1858. Broadside, 21 x 6 1/4 inches. Near-complete loss to first line of text ("Wood's Theater"), several small closed tears at left edge, repaired on verso with archival tape, else very good. An unrecorded Cincinnati theatre broadside, advertising a performance of OTHELLO featuring J. Proctor in the title role. Joseph Proctor (1816-97) was a celebrated tragedian from Philadelphia, praised for his performances of Macbeth, Marc Antony, and Damon, and best known for his role as the title character in NICK OF THE WOODS. Following OTHELLO is a performance of a farce entitled, PRINCE FOR AN HOUR. the broadside also advertises an upcoming performance of J. Proctor's own "new Prize Tragedy," ADELCHI; OR THE LAST OF THE LOMBARDS. Wood's Theater opened at Sixth and Vine Streets in 1856 and flourished for two decades before being replaced by the Cincinnati Gazette building.
