A Journal of a Tour of Discovery Across the Blue Mountains, New South Wales, in the Year 1813. Third edition
T. Dimmock, Maitland 1904 - Small octavo, original dark wrappers, preserved in a bookform box. A fine copy of the so-called third edition (actually the fourth if a facsimile published in 1893 is included in the count), published by the author's grandson, Charles Blaxland. This edition includes excerpts of letters written to C.R. Blaxland about the 1813 expedition. This 1904 edition is actually one of the scarcer of the early imprints: the first edition of 1823 is practically unobtainable, while the limited editions published late in the nineteenth century (the second edition of 1870 and the 1893 facsimile) have become quite scarce. Provenance: Arthur Jose (1863-1934, journalist, historian and editor of the Australian Encyclopedia), inscribed to him in ink on front wrapper "with the [?publisher's] Compts"; private collection (Sydney). Wrappers a little faded; thin spine neatly renewed. [Attributes: Soft Cover]
