Garden City, New York First Edition . 1968. - Stated first edition hard back binding in publisher's original grey cloth covers, red and blue title lettering to the spine. 8vo. 8½'' x 6''. Contains [xxi] 286 [iii] printed pages of text with monochrome illustrations and photographs throughout. Fine condition book in Fine condition dust wrapper, not price clipped $5.95. SIGNED to the title page 'David W. Lewis, formerly with Charles Biddle in Lafayette Flying Corps 1917-1918, and later under his command in 25th Aero U.S.' Hand written note inside the rear cover 'Biddle, Bauer, etc. were not considered bona fide members of the Escadrille Lafayette [S. 124] as the Escadrille [Squadron] had passed from French into American hands prior to their posting. See Nordhoff and Hall's ''The Lafayette Flying Corps'' for full explanation, also see p.xviii of this book. His commission in the US Air service is dated November 7th, 1917, so he was not under French command during the transition to the U.S. 103rd Aero Squadron.'
