Hurst and Blackett, Publishers 1862, London - In 3 volumes. Second edition of the first English translation, issued in the same year as the first French edition and just weeks after the first English. Brown half morocco over brown cloth. Five raised bands to spines with gilt lettering. Top edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Bound by Riviere. Spines slightly but uniformly faded to light brown. Minor rubbing to spine ends. Internally clean with occasional light foxing. Extra illustrated edition with numerous full-page illustrations taken from the French edition. Copac records just 3 locations for the second edition: Cardiff; Manchester & Sheffield Universities. The first edition is just held at Cambridge & Trinity College Dublin. An attractive set in VG or better condition. Scarce.
