Gutachten über das Jüdisch-rituelle Schlachtverfahren ("Schächten")
Emil Apolant, Berlin 1894 - Folio. xvi,1 22pp. Blind stamped decor and lettering on green cloth binding. Elaborate work on Shechitah, the slaughtering of certain animals according to Jewish law (Kosher Slaughtering). The practices of Shechitah are not described in the "Five Books of Moses" but were handed down in Judaism's traditional Oral Torah, and codified in the "Halakha." The foreword deals with changes in the law of German speaking countries as well as ordinances of cities relating to the Shechitah, the anti-Semitic viewpoint regarding Shechitah, the Jewish orthodox viewpoint as well as safety measure to be taken at slaughter, details regarding the slaughter procedures, e.g. neck puncture, attacking the head of the animal, the sharpness of the knife, etc. Following is an extensive compilation of expert opinions by many veterinarians and Kosher Slaughterers attesting that the ritual slaughter can not be considered to be animal cruelty. Text in German. Two small library stickers on upper left corner and tail of spine, library markings in pencil and color pencil on title page. Leave with pages xv and xvi loose. Medium age toning of block. Slight sporadic small tears along edges. Binding in overall good+, interior in good condition. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
