Campen (Kampen)
Copperplate engraving of the Dutch city of Kampen, as seen from above. With explanatory title (Campen) above the city and written in a cartouche on the top of the plate: 'Vrbis Campensis ad iso: lam Fluuium icon'. A cartouch with the description of the city in the bottom left corner. The city crest of Kampen in the top left corner and a blank crest in the right. ca. 1582. This print is copied after Braun and Hogenberg (1581). Overall size: 30,2 x 38 cm; plate size: 23,8 x 32,3 cm. Good state. Some age related discolouration (brown spots). Handlaid paper with a fold in the middle. This print originates from 'Lodovico Guicciardini, Descrittione di tutti i Paesi bassi (...), Antwerpen, Plantijn, 1582'. This was an influential account of the history and the arts of the Low Countries, accompanied by city maps by various leading engravers. Deys 2001.
