Y Beibl Cyssegr-lan 1588
National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth 1987 - 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. In brown cloth with blind tooling. Spine has title in gilt, some blind tooling. Internally, cream endpapers, title page in black inks, (iii), 555 pp, a few spots along text block edges, with its slipcase. A dedication, in Welsh, from the author Ieuan Gwynedd Jones to Harlech College to fep. A University of Wales production which is a facsimile copy of the 1588 Bishop Morgan Bible, an edition limited in numbers to 500 copies only, and now very difficult to find. A lovely copy of an important and always useful title! Morgan, bishop of St Asaph and biblical translator has been called 'the single most important figure in the history of the Reformation in Wales' (Williams, Wales and the Reformation, 342), because it was he who brought to completion the translation of the Bible into Welsh. The Book of Common Prayer, including the psalter, and the New Testament had been translated in 1567, but the task was left unfinished. See ODNB. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
