Moderate toning and light scattered foxing to contents. First 20 pages has brown stains on the left upper edges. Leather is shelf worn and rubbed. Faint previous owner ink signature on front paste down. Carey's purpose was to conciliate Federalists and Republicans for the salvation of the Union, which at that time was in danger of dissolution.
