Listen To The Lambs (Signed & Inscribed)
Norton, USA 1968 - First Printing 1968-From the collection of David Wallerstein and Caroline Riesor--Wallerstein was best friends with Walt Disney and served on the Board of Director's of Disney, ABC, Paramount--and got his start under the tutelage of Adolf Zukor at Paramount. His wife, Caroline Riesor was a Chicago socialite and book collector who was seriously involved in the Civil Rights movement of the 60's--with Martin Luther King and prominent black leaders and personalities as they came through Chicago. She collected signed books of MLK and others including Johnny Otis. A superb fine copy in an unclipped and good to very good dustjacket. This copy is signed on an attached bookplate by Jazz drummer and author Johnny Otis and inscribed "To Mickey--The Greatest--The Flea!" above the signed bookplate. A tight and clean copy with only a little dustiness to the page edges. The dustjacket is complete and unclipped with moderate edgewear to the extremities in the usual places--the head and heel of the spine and tips--with some chipping to the head of the spine--and some tape repair. Known to many as the Godfather of Rythmn and Blues--whose father "Shuggie" was also famous in the history of American Jazz--this is a semi-autobiographical story of the author growing up in the "Negro" world in the 30's and 40's--playing with a few seminal bands including Count Basie--before forming his own combo. Throughout he fought the prejudices, the hate, and the suspicion of the white man for the black man. Johnny Otis' own story is woven into the fabric of the plight and devastation of the American Negro. This is a very scarce title and especially scarce signed by the author. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]
