The Dream of Poliphilus Facsimiles of one hundred and sixty eight woodcuts in the "Hypnerotomachia Poliphili," Venice, 1499.
London: Reproduced for the Dept. of Science and Art in photo-lithography by W. Griggs, 1893 "The book pictured (7 images) is the copy being sold. The major defect is that the paper is cracked at the front and back inside covers. The last two pages are loose with the remaining pages stapled tight (see images). There is mild tanning. The the cover has soiling (pictured), small stains on the back board, with bumped corners. The book has 13 pages of text by Dr. Appell with the 168 numbered pages of woodcuts. Woodcuts appear on only the front side of a page with the backside being blank. This book weight is 1 lb., dimensions 12 ozs.8.75 x 11 inches.Note: Libraries credit Colonna as an author. The text is by Appell. According the Hathi Trust Digital Library "The artist or designer of the woodcuts is unknown; they have been attributed to Giovanni or Gentile Bellini, Andrea Mantegna, Carpaccio, Jacopo de' Barbari, the Master of the Dolphin; the author Francesco Colonna, and others.
