Although the book was produced under the war economy standards the pages are almost entirely unfoxed; the book is tight and unmarked, slight corner bumping and fading on spine, *** DUST JACKET (see image opposite) is chipped and has edgewear, the front is missing a triangle about 6cm x2cm. Previous owner's name neatly on front end paper. *** CONTENTS: This is the true and extraordinary story of a young Colonial administrator in Burma who became hooked on opium. In an effort to combat this addiction he turned to Buddhism; this didn't work so he tried to commit suicide, but only succeeded in blinding himself.
