Octavo, original printed papered boards (lightly marked and with loss of paper along spine), title page with hand coloured copperplate vignette of a globe showing Africa, Europe, Asia and Australia; 47 pp, with 23 hand coloured copperplate engravings of peoples of the world in traditional costume, each accompanied by 2 pages of descriptive text; the plates include depictions of a New Zealand Māori, a native of Quito (Ecuador) and a North American Indian, as well as Chinese, Japanese and European types; occasional mild foxing, but a good copy of a fragile volume. A rare early nineteenth century German children's ethnography that includes a section on the appearance and customs of the "Neu-Seeländer", with a striking full page copperplate engraving of a Māori holding a tewhatewha. Only two copies located in OCLC (Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin;Zentral- und Hochschulbibliothek, Luzern); Alexander Turnbull Library holds a copy which it dates to [1845].
