Second edition with the sought after copper engraved plates, which are absent from later editions. Edgewear to corners and spine. Xii + 677pp, illustrated with twenty engravings of public buildings, views and plan (frontis, several folding plates). Contents I. An Historical Account of the Revolutions in Scotland from 1093; II The Manners - Learning - Trade - Religion - Prices of Provisions - Discovery of Coal - Public Amusements etc.; III Progress and Present State of the City of Edinburgh.; IV Public Buildings and Establishments etc.; V An Account of the University and Other Seminaries of Learning, and Literary Societies.; VI Legislative and Judicative Assemblies with an Account of their Juristrictions.; VII Political and Military Constituion - Charitable Institutions - Revenue.; VIII An Account of Leith, its trade, Shipping, Manufactures, etc. To which is Added an Appendix containing I. A Dissertation on Scottish Music; II. An Account of Remarkable Funeral Processions; III. A Comparative View of the Modes of Living Manners Literature Trade and Improvements of the City, from 1763 to the present period, etc., etc., etc. Generally very good, but some chipping, tears, marks to plates, a couple of plate have parts missing from the edges (see pictures), previous owners name on front endpapers. Ex reference library with number on spine and within, pictorial & dedication bookplate at front, single stamp on endpapers, first and last page and reverse of all plates. Blind stamp on title page. No other obvious library markings, the inner book is generally in very good + clean condition. ***Heavy and will require extra overseas postage***
