Exile. The Making of Exile on Main St.
UK: Genesis Publications, 2001. The complete photographs of Dominic Tarle, with a foreword by Keith Richards, SIGNED by the photographer. No.21 of a Limited Edition of 2000 copies, being the rare DELUXE ISSUE which was additionally signed by guitarist Mick Taylor and features a unique signed and numbered print by Dominic Tarle. A fine photo-documentary of Keith's residency at Villa Nellcote in Villefranche sur Mer in the summer of 1971, where the Stones recorded their legendary double-album in the basement. Folio, pp.248, bound in full tan morocco, a.e.g., in screen-printed pictorial slipcase. A fine copy, with loose accompanying letter from the publisher concerning this volume, plus the original synopsis brochure. In our opinion the rarest and most desirable of Genesis Publications' books on the Rolling Stones. This beautiful collection of images ranks amongst the finest and most revealing ever taken of the Rolling Stones or any rock band. Remarkably, as a body of work the photographs remained unpublished for over thirty years. 'Everything revolved around Richards, then stepping out of his role as Jagger's foil to stake his claim as the soul of the Stones. It was Keith's buccaneer spirit that marched proceedings along' -The Guradian I really think that Exile was Keith's thing. If it hadn't been for Keith the album might never have got made. Keith was the whole thing -Andy Johns, [sound engineer, Exile on main St.] I didn't enjoy it at all. Fucking drag it was - Mick Jagger, 1972.
