Nicholas Nickleby.
London: Chapman and Hall, 1839. FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE of the text, with 'visiter' for 'sister' line 17, page 123, and 'latter' for 'letter' 6 lines up, page 160; the llustrations up to p.45 are First Issue, carrying a 'C H' imprint (Eckel). Half-title present. Octavo, pp.xvi; 624. Elegantly bound (c.1910) in half green calf with floral gilt over cloth sides, marbled endpapers, top edge gilt. A little expected spotting but cleaner than usual within; binding lightly rubbed, pleasingly sunned to brown at spine. A most attractive copy. The first of Dickens' romances, it is perhaps most famous for its extraordinary and memorable villains, Wackford Squeers and Ralph Nickleby.
