Book label of Denis Gray on front free endpaper. jacket spine toned, crease across corner of back panel, a little foxing to top and fore edge. An excellent copy. First edition, first impression. Thompson "felt that he had much to learn from the life experiences of his working-class students. The whole tone of his most celebrated work, The Making of the English Working Class (1963), which made his reputation, testifies to this. It was fittingly dedicated to one of these students, and for all its international success it is impossible not to sense that the audience he felt himself to be addressing was a wider one than that of the academy" (ODNB). Scarce in the jacket.
