India Orientalis.
No date. Early 1610. - Copperplate engraved map, handcolored, 5 3/4 x 7 3/4 inches on sheet 7 x 8 1/2 inches. Paper crease in lower right corner, otherwise very good. The pagination on this map is 635, with 636 on the verso which is printed with text in Latin; this map is likely from the 1610 edition Mercator's Atlas Minor. It provides a fascinating view of the exotic lands of the East Indies from India to China and encompassing part of Sumatra and Borneo and the Philippine Islands. A huge lake Chiamai between India and China is the source for four large rivers flowing to the south. Attractive strapwork title and scale cartouches.
