London printed for Charles Adams 1654 - FIRST ENGLISH TRANSLATION 1654. 12mo, approximately 140 x 85 mm, 5½ x 3½ inches, pages: [94], 1-86, Latin and English text, bound in full modern leather, new endpapers, edges untrimmed, bookplate to first pastedown and small green bookseller's ticket on bottom of last pastedown. Top corner of title page neatly repaired, not affecting text, occasional fox spot, pale age-browning throughout, otherwise a very good copy. Gratius Faliscus or Grattius was a Roman poet of the age of Augustus. He is known as the author of a Cynegeticon, a poem on hunting, born 63 BC died 14 AD. The work describes various kinds of game, methods of hunting, and the best breeds of horses and dogs.
