Sal Si Puedes: Cesar Chavez and the New American Revolution
Random House (1969), New York - 372 pages. Matthiessen's sympathetic account of the United Farm Worker's Union and the Grape Boycott. First edition (stated, with numberline ending in 2, as is standard practice for Random House). This is an extraordinary copy, inscribed by both Cesar Chavez and Larry Itliong, the leader of the Filipino members of the UFW. Cesar Chavez writes, 'To the Krug family with warmest personal good wishes' and signs in full. On the following page is a second inscription, 'May 17, 1970. To a wonderful family and friend of the farm workers. Mabuhay, Larry Itliong.' An autograph note by Matthiessen written to another person, but mentioning Chavez, is laid in. An extraordinary copy. Unfortunately, the previous owner had written her name and address inside and has annotated and underlined many pages. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]
